I was excited and bit worried about my first week. Is it gonna be too much? What workouts am I gonna have to do? Also the weather looked horrible for this start. Around -20C every day. This week was supposed to be just easy, to see where am at. Monday is my rest day. Tuesday I had strength but also 60min easy run. Because the weather was so bad I decided to join my old running group and do that on an inside track instead of a treadmill at home. I got this message in the morning:
And I laughed out hard. I was like "Oh, 60 casual kms. Well, that escalated quickly." I knew it was a typo for mins but still, it made me laugh.
Running on inside small track is not fun. It was bit better as I shared the first few mins with my old coach and we had a good chat. Then she proceeded to do her own workout and I just kept going in circles. At about 17' and 40' I added 2 sets of stairs to break it up a bit. But at about 45mins my left thigh/quad started to hurt for whatever reason and so I ended it at 50mins. I walked for quite a bit after to catch up with a friend and it was fine, so not sure if I pulled some muscle there while doing the stairs or whatever, but it went away luckily.
Wednesday was my first real workout! Hill sprints! It was -21. I have never run in such cold weather. I was bit worried but I told myself that I just need to try and see how it is. If I feel too cold and my lungs would hurt, I'd just go home. I was ready for this tho, I wanted to show that I'm committed and I don't back off easily. First hill was okay, but only 60sec recovery was not enough hah. Second was tough and after the 3rd one I had to stop my watch and give myself a longer break. Went for the 4th one and when my watch beeped I stopped, bent over and put my hands on my knees to catch my breath. When I stood up again and started to walk down I looked at my watch and my watch was saying that Incident was detected and it was sending SOS to my emergency contact. I was like WTF? It was too late to stop it. The workout ended automatically and it took me few mins to restart it. I also had to message my husband to ignore that emergency and that I am fine. I was pissed tho! It threw me off and I lost my groove. I still had one more rep to do and then some more running. It took me probably like 10mins to get back into it. I finished it but I was mad. But also kinda proud that I did that in -21!
Thursday was strength again and then easy run with 4x3mins intervals and more easy running after. I was supposed to pace it as eavenly as possible. My intervals were 5:10, 5:10, 4:55 and 4:55 :D. Not bad haha but I was planning to go faster as they went. It was tough. I'm not used to do strength - run - workout - strength - workout. Very different but a good challenge.
Friday was a rest day again and I was very happy to have that!
Saturday was a mountain day. I had to do MoMoRo once. With a slight push. I was excited about that and ready to give a go. When I arrived it was -20 again. I was expecting -14 and I didn't dress that properly. Started easier to get the body warm. Tried to run/shuffle bit more than I did last time. Tried to do some intervals of like 30sec/40sec on sections where I'd usually just powerhiked. It was cold but so beautiful. I reached the top 7mins faster than last time! I was also trying new nutrition - NeverSecond High Carb Drink Mix which has 90g of carbs! I drank the whole bottle and even had one gel cause I thought it was only 60g of carbs. It worked pretty well, too sweet but no issues. Way down was cruisy! Met coach, chatted for few secs and then just kept running. I think I only walked once, that one uphill while I also had another gel. I'm usually not happy with my workouts but I was really happy with this effort and even more so when I saw my Strava and all the PR's :D. It was a great day!
Finished the week with 45mins recovery shuffle. Running really slow is pretty hard for me. Especially this slow :D. But kinda managed.
Except for almost dying on Wednesday, it went pretty awesome and I'm ready for week 2! #LFG
