Coach said NO strength today! Maybe he is paying attention to my extra strength workouts afterall π . I was a good student for once and actually didn't do anything.
After seeing someone doing a 50M run around West Bragg Creek this weekend, it got me thinking...maybe that's the way to go to set up myself for success for my 100M. Maybe I can run 90K around West Bragg, stock my car up with everything I need and then run back to Canmore on the BVU course. It would be way easier for crewing. I could do that without any help really and then just have people to come for the night sections/running back. Ya, it wouldn't be the original course but it's my own race, I can do whatever I want. I will definitely think about it more, but it would be a great option I think.
Progression run for the starters! I again was thinking about this way too much haha. Do I go slow with bigger gaps in each K or do I start faster and have smaller differences in paces... I kinda went by feel. The first K was slow, second one was definitely faster. I went with bigger gaps again. At first I was like Oh yeah I got this, this feels amazing, only to go for few more steps and feeling like How am I gonna hold this and go faster for 3 more K?? I was all over the place... 3K was bit uphill, 4th was on a downhill π, 5&6 on flat. 5th felt HARD! And 6th? I was just praying I counted right in my head cause if this is not the last K I have to do, I'm gonna for sure die...π I was just hanging on and hoping I can make it π€£. I did but it was TOUGH! And then I had to sprint through those stupid sprinklers π. That was fun π .
One of my favorites - easy + strides. And Happy Global Running Day! My amazing running hats finally arrived yesterday and I was so ready to get them outside. Couldn't be any better to run in hat I STILL HATE RUNNING on Global Running Day π . Took it easy, tried to switch songs on my watch - pressed the wrong button, totally screwed my workout - had to cancel it and that meant running strides with manually checking the time, that sucked. But got it done and felt pretty okay.
Long run Friday?! Well that's what I thought...80mins easy. At first I was like OMG that is SO much more time than I usually do etc. Only to later realize that my runs - easy with strides - are usually around 1:15 - 1:17 π€£π like c'mon, that's basically no difference at all but again, I kinda didn't realize that until way after so I went into this like it's such a huge workout/run day π . Got my vest out, took both bottles (luckily cause it was HOT), 2 gels and off I went. I planned for Glenmore Reservoir cause I haven't run there in a bit and also hoped for a spectacular sunrise... well, it was overcast/cloudy and I saw nothing. And there was noone. Kinda good, kinda not. Was trying to make it easy but it didn't feel as easy as it should I think. Anyways. Got 1:25 and can't wait to see how tired I'm gonna be tomorrow π.
I couldn't decide where to go. I definitely knew that the original plan is not gonna work cause there is momma bear around the area and I'm not putting myself into any stupid situations like that. Not chancing it. And doing Moose Mountain twice was not very enticing to me either. But what else could I do?? There was a group doing Cox Hill/Jumpingpoud. Which I really wanted to do as it's part of the BVU route and I've never been on that section between Cox/Jumpingpoud. But they weren't starting till 10am. Like by then I wanna be done almost π and also, it would be too short for what I was supposed to do. So anyways. Got up, got ready...and decided to go to Cox anyways. Plan was to start early, go up for 4-5K, turn around, come back to car, refill and join the group. I wasn't sure if I can keep up with them but the fact they would be somewhere there on the trail was enough for me to be solo if I had to.
Started my solo run just after 8am. Shockingly, I was the first one on the trail. But it was okay. I felt fine. No signs of wildlife. It went pretty good too. I kept reminding myself not to go fast as I'm gonna have to do this again soon. And also, that I had pretty big run yesterday and it's okay to feel little bit tired as usually I have a rest day on Friday. Went 4.5K up and decided to turn around and go back. I still had enough time but just wanted to make sure I get back in time and have enough time to refill my bottles etc. I came back bit too early and had to wait for like 20-30mins before we started again. Legs were definitely not happy and the first few mins were rough. I was pushing it a bit to be able to keep up. I stayed in the back which was really ideal for me. I didn't have to talk and could just go my own pace almost. The last part before getting to the Cox Hill ridge was tough! Omg... I don't know why I thought that from Cox to Jumpingpound it's nice, straight line on the ridge. Well it is not. It drops pretty fast and the descend is long. All I could think about was Damn, this is gonna SUCK on the way back. The way up wasn't as bad tho. But some of the more runnable parts were getting hard for me. The views were pretty spectacular from up there. This travers was awesome. We stopped at Jumpingpound for a bit but then turn around and went back. Well they did, I stayed bit behind cause I was filling my bottles. And they were gone quickly. So I had to try to catch up. Which I eventually did. Still luckily for me, 2 faster people were together and then the 2 ladies were also together, which left me by myself, in the middle. Perfect! It was getting hot. I was thinking how the F would I ever be able to do this part in a race...twice. At like 40K and then 120K...there is no fuckin way. I felt pretty weak again. Like I should really be doing these way easily, but I am not, I am still struggling to finish this 30K run. We regrouped a little bit at the top of Cox but then got separated again and I was just chasing the shadow of Alex. I felt okay for the downhill part, until up about 1.5K left when my knees started to hurt. It was a good one, but it was tough. I felt really tired and kinda wrecked when I got home.
Recovery shuffle or a hike. It's gonna be Piglet's bday this week so we had to do a summit party. Surprisingly, my legs felt fine. I didn't feel thrashed when I woke up. So off we went for a little hike up to Powderface Ridge. Lucy was slow AF. Like it was like a slow motion. We did the first kilometer in 30mins!!! I mean I didn't mind it that much cause it was nice slow warm up for me but still, omg I thought we won't even make it all the way to the top. Well eventually she started to go fast. And again, I felt pretty good! After spending some time at the summit, doing little photoshoot, we started to go down. Lucy usually wants to jog, at least some of those parts. Most of the time, after a big run the day before, I can't do that cause my quads are super sore and any faster, downhill movement is a torture. To my surprise, I felt good! I was bit sore but I still could jog with her! I couldn't really believe that. I felt fresh like I could go for another run right now! I'm sure I actually could not but it was a nice feeling haha. Definitely made me feel way better about everything and after the not so great run yesterday. Maybe it is all working.
